Ministry wants no haste with e-SIMs till security issues solved

MOSCOW, Apr 8 (PRIME) -- Russia can only start using the embedded SIM card technology, or e-SIM, after security issues have been solved, Deputy Digital Development Minister Oleg Ivanov told PRIME on Monday.

“We don’t think the matter should be pushed forward. In the first place we should tackle all the issues of security,” Ivanov said.

Media earlier reported quoting sources, that the country’s top three operators – MTS, MegaFon, and VimpelCom – and the Federal Security Service opposed use of the eSIMs in the country. The novelty is used in the latest models of Apple and Samsung devices for connection without a physical SIM card.
